Alana comes from a background rich in craft, having studied both textile art and jewellery design. With a natural affinity for differing materials, she creates work with depth and character.
Since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with First class honors, Alana has been setting up her own studio workshop whilst undertaking a position as Designer in Residence at DJCAD, and exhibiting her degree show collection ‘Mothers Cupboards’.
‘Mothers Cupboards’ was inspired by objects from her parents home, mixing industrial shapes like that of her fathers reclaimed chemistry instruments into delicate materials such as porcelain, with mohair and fine knitted wires in romantic ashen shades, reminiscent of her great grandmothers beaded purses.
Alana’s latest collection Isla, brings inspiration from her favourite Islands of Lefkas, Mujeres and Mull, where vibrant colours pop from coast beaten pastels. Each piece is hand sculpted in porcelain, bamboo or teak, hand painted and glazed and finished in silver and gold. Mixing sea smoothed and weathered textures with chain, rope, wood or rubber – Encompassing the Isles.
Alana works from her home in St Andrews and welcomes bespoke commissions.
